Root VPS Servers

Management Tools

Managed Servers

It is recommended not to use hosting companies owned by EIG, including: Bluehost, Hostgator, Site5, and the others on that list. Customer service and quality tend to be low with EIG hosting.

Also avoid: GoDaddy, 1and1.

It's better to get a root server than to use a shared hosting company. Root servers are also cheaper -- starting at $5/month on Digital Ocean. (Get a $10 credit for new accounts.) You may be able to find tools that make server management easier like: Laravel Forge for Laravel or similar services.

PaaS

Platform as a service. Watch out for vendor lock-in with data migration. For example: if you're building a mobile app and you want to switch backends, you will have to maintain the proprietary backend until all users stop using older version of your downloaded app.
